GSA MULTIPLE LAND MOBILE TOWERS STRUCTURAL / GENERAL ASSESSMENTS & HELIPAD SURVEYS, Various Locations, ME

Project Overview

Commissioned by GSA, NKB’s scope for this project involved 16 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Tower and helipad sites throughout the State of Maine.

For the condition assessments, NKB performed a structural and condition assessment of each tower, as well as a condition assessment of all other owned assets such as shelters and power systems to determine if any assets were in need of corrective repair or replacement. Our scope of services included onsite condition assessment of the existing LMT structures (including tower and non-tower assets), structural analysis of each U.S. Custom & Border Protection-owned structure, a condition assessment report for all assets, and preparation of a cost estimate to correct any observed deficiencies found at each of the LMT locations.

For the helipad placement, NKB completed a topographic and terrain survey at each of the LMT sites to determine the optimal location for installing helicopter landing pads at these remote locations to facilitate safe and reliable helicopter access. This included providing aviation design services to position the helipad in the optimal location for each LMT site along with structural engineering services to design the foundations for each pre-manufactured helipad to be located at each of the 16 LMT sites.

Most importantly, the scope included extensive logistics considerations with many of the LMT sites being located in remote wilderness areas of northern Maine that required access by helicopter or all-terrain vehicles to the summits of mountains located.
