ABOUT THIS COURSE
It is critical for designers to properly detail and specify firestopping methods to ensure our buildings and spaces are safe from the spread of fire and smoke through openings in walls, floors, ceilings, etc. Firestopping details are often overlooked, which results in improper installation in the field.
The purpose of this course is to provide a high-level overview of various Firestopping systems and to learn how to search UL Fire Resistance Directories for specific fire rated assemblies.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, you should have a basic understanding of the following:
Understand the difference between through penetrations and membrane penetrations.
Learn how to search firestop systems using UL Fire Resistance Directories.
Search on-line UL Databases by assemblies or by entering specific project parameters.
Understand the roles and responsibilities of the designer, contractor, and building official regarding UL Design.
Properly specify and detail firestopping conditions on the contract documents.
Provide a general overview of various UL rated products.
